Information Materials for victims' rights handed to Hellenic Police and Gender Equality Secretariat
The Infovictims Brochure, a useful information tool that describes the rights of victims of crime was developed by the EPLO in the framework of the EU Project “Infovictims”. The Project aims at assisting victims of crime, especially vulnerable victims such as women and children, by providing them information on their rights and available support services, in furtherance of the EU Victims' Rights Directive.
On March 20, 2023, the EPLO provided the Infovictims Brochure to the Hellenic Police on the occasion of a meeting with Col. Manthos Giannoulis, Director of the General Policing Division, and Capt. Anestis Sapounas, Head of the Domestic Violence Department, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Citizen Protection in Athens.
On the same day, the Infovictims Brochure was provided to the General Secretariat for Demography, Family Policy and Gender Equality, during a meeting with Ms. Chryssa Papaiakovou, Advisor to the Deputy Minister Ms. Maria Syrengela, at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
Over 600 copies of the booklet were delivered to both authorities and will be made available to victims of crime in the relevant services of the Hellenic Police, in particular in the specialized Services for Domestic Violence which operate across Greece, as well as in the various Counseling Centers and Shelters for Abused Women of the Gender Equality Secretariat.
The Infovictims Brochure provides simple and clear information to victims about their rights, the ways to exercise such rights, how to report a crime, as well as the services available in Greece for the support and protection of victims. Victims of crime are guaranteed a number of important rights, including the right to information, the right to confidential victim support services, the right to free legal assistance, the right to compensation and the right to protection, among others.
The Infovictims Website for Greece (https://infovictims.gr/el), Brochure and other information materials were presented at a National Conference held by the EPLO in Athens in December 2022. A dedicated Mobile Application will be launched in the spring of 2023.
The Infovictims Project is implemented by the EPLO and a consortium of partner organizations from nine EU Member States: Portugal, Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania and Czech Republic. The Project is funded by the European Commission Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers.
