ATHR Participation in the 2nd Anti-Corruption Academic Symposium in Moscow

The Academy for Transparency & Human Rights (ATHR) of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) participated in the 2nd Anti-Corruption Academic Symposium in Moscow, Russian Federation, from 21 to 22 November 2019.

The two –day Symposium was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in partnership with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), and was held in advance of the eighth session of the Conference of States parties to the United Nation Convention against Corruption, which will take place in Abu Dhabi from 16 to 20 December 2019.

The symposium was held under the auspices of the Anti-Corruption Academic (ACAD) initiative and its aim was to provide a forum for ACAD members and other academics and experts to discuss key issues in the area of anti-corruption research and education and to discuss how to promote the initiative further.

Ambassador Dr. Ugljesa Ugi Zvekic, Head of the Permanent Observer Office of EPLO to the United Nations in Vienna, gave a speech on "Global crime governance: Integrating UNTOC and UNCAC".

The ATHR also participated in the Round-Table for Students and University Lecturers: ‘’Using the E4J University Module Series on Integrity & Ethics and Anti-Corruption’’ which was held prior to the Symposium, on the 20th November 2019.

The objective of the Round-Table which was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in partnership with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and the ATHR was to :

(1) enhance the participants’ familiarity with the E4J University Modules on Anti-Corruption, Integrity and Ethics;

(2) consider effective approaches to using the Modules in universities at both the undergraduate and graduate level;

(3) support participants in adapting and integrating the Modules into existing or new courses.

The ATHR was represented by the Special Adviser to the Director , Panagiotis Alexopoulos.
