European Institute for the Study of Chinese Law Governance and Civilization (ISCL)

Objectives

The European Institute for the Study of Chinese Law, Governance, and Civilization (EISCL) functions as a central nexus for academic inquiry, education, and scholarly collaboration. It is dedicated to cultivating a comprehensive understanding of China's legal, governance, and cultural frameworks, examining their interconnections with Europe and the broader international community. By fostering intercultural dialogue and reciprocal insight, the EISCL endeavors to facilitate the evolution of sound legal systems and effective governance, concurrently promoting an appreciation for cultural patrimony.

The EISCL addresses a variety of related topics, including the following:

  • to promote the research and participate in studies on China in a variety of fields, with a focus on Chinese Law, Governance and Civilization, especially with regard to relation to Europe.
  • to raise the consciousness of understanding and knowledge between Europeans and Chinese
  • to help establish the framework for historical and cultural respect
  • to encourage the promotion of Sino-European Academic Staff and student exchanges as well as research on China
  • to plan training sessions, workshops and seminars on European Law and Governance for Chinese students as well as Chinese Law and Governance for European students
  • to create a Chinese Studies research network among EPLO members

Functioning as an autonomous unit within the EPLO, the Institute is overseen by its Director and a dedicated Scientific Council. This Council is constituted by fifteen internationally acclaimed specialists, representing a broad spectrum of European and Chinese scholarship. Their collective expertise includes, but is not limited to, Chinese Law, Political Science, Governance Theories, Human Rights, and Humanitarian Law.
