Event on the "Legal Aspects in Dealing with the Migration and Refugee Crisis"
With the aim of initiating a targeted discussion on the current legal challenges set by the recent developments in the migration and refugee crisis in Europe, a high level roundtable discussion took place on Tuesday, October 18 at the St. George Lycabettus Hotel (16.00 – 19.00) with the participation of Greek and foreign academics and other experts on migration issues.
The legal background, the Geneva Convention as well as the Dublin Regulations, that have been developed and implemented for years, are currently implemented but in a totally different and in times contradictory context with regard to current political decisions. Today, the legal instruments and the legal status quo need to be updated and reshaped in order to live up to the current realities and challenges.
The event entitled "Legal Aspects in Dealing with Migration and Refugee Crisis" was organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Office in Greece and the Academy of Transparency and Human Rights of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO).
Main speakers included:

- Angelos Syrigos, Assistant Professor, Panteion University
- Gilbert Gornig, Professor, University of Marburg
- Panagiotis Nikas, former Director of the Reception and Identification Service and
- Patroklos Georgiadis, migration expert of the European Public Law Organization
The discussion was moderated by the journalist Mr Foivos Karzis.
