ViSAR Project: Support for victims of crime in Greece. Recent developments & prospects_Part B

2nd Focus Group

On 21 February 2025, the ViSAR project held its second focus group under the theme “Support for Victims of Crime in Greece: Recent Developments & Prospects_Part B”. Organized online by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) as project partner, the event formed part of the project’s efforts to assess national practices and promote policy dialogue on victim support mechanisms in Greece.

This second meeting aimed to reflect on institutional progress and evaluate current challenges in the implementation of victim protection policies, building directly upon the outcomes of the first focus group held on 12 February 2025.

Key topics addressed included:

  • the provision of psychological support to victims of crime;
  • institutional collaboration among frontline professionals (e.g. child protection services, police, and shelters);
  • the importance of trauma-informed and child-sensitive approaches;
  • and the coherence and responsiveness of national coordination structures.

The event opened with a presentation of the ViSAR project and its main objectives within the framework of EU strategies for victims’ rights. A dedicated session was included for the structured review of the 1st focus group results, allowing participants to identify areas of convergence and divergence across different sectors.

Moderated by members of the EPLO team, the focus group offered safe space for exchange among psychologists, legal professionals, child protection experts, and institutional actors, providing targeted input for the project’s next phase.

The insights collected will directly contribute to the preparation of project deliverables, including national and EU-level policy recommendations. The ViSAR project is co-funded by the European Union, with the aim of strengthening victim support systems and promoting a rights-based, victim-centered approach across Member States. It is implemented by a transnational consortium with coordinator the Court of Appeal of Venice (CoA-V, Italy), and partners the European Public Law Organization (EPLO,Greece), the Agenfor International (AGF, Italy), Hochschule für Öffentliche Verwaltung – University for Public Administration (HfÖV, Germany), Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Democracy (CIRD, Germany), European Public Law Organization (EPLO, Greece), Jagiellonian University (JU, Poland), Union of Italian Criminal Chambers (UCPI, Italy), and Centrum voor Innovatie in de Publieke en Opvoedkundige Sector (CIPOS, Curaçao).
