The Kick off Meeting of the project VISAR: Victim Support through Alignment of Remedies was successfully held at EPLO premises
On October 31, 2024, the ViSAR project started with the Kick-off Meeting in Athens, Greece. Project coordinator, Court of Appeal of Venice (CoV)-(IT) together with Agenfor International (AGF) in Italy, the University “Hochschule fur Offentliche Verwaltung“ (HFOV) in Germany, the “Civic Institute to promote the Rule of Democracy» (Cird E.V.) in Germany, the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) in Greece, the University Uniwersytet Jagiellonski in Poland, the «Unione Camere Penali Italiane» (UCPI) in Italy and the «Cipos Foundation» (CIPOS) in Curacao/Netherlands, discussed the upcoming project activities for the next 24 months.
The overall objective of the ViSAR project is to enhance the effective implementation of EU victims' rights laws, particularly in the context of domestic violence, by fostering cooperation among key stakeholders, improving access to justice and support services for victims, and developing standardized resources and tools that promote a comprehensive, coherent, and inclusive victim support strategy across EU Member States.
The main objectives of the project are:
- Enhance collaboration among prosecutors, judges, law enforcement, CSOs, and other stakeholders involved in victim support.
- Facilitate access to justice and compensation for victims of domestic violence and crime, particularly focusing on marginalized groups such as women, children, and the LGBTQ+ community.
- Create and disseminate mutual learning materials on EU directives, psycho-social support, and restorative justice measures.
- Develop an AI-supported platform to improve information exchange and response for victims and service providers.
- Establish transnational standard model agreements and aligned workflows to address cross-border aspects of victims' rights effectively.
- Foster the professionalization of support services through training and shared best practices
Partners were able to frame project’s thematics in a creative way through brainstorming and approach the development of project’s AI tools in such way to accommodate victims’ rights in their core.
