The EPLO implements a large number of programs funded by the European Union and other international donors, assisting governments and institutions around the world. The position is located within the Department of Technical Cooperation of the EPLO. The candidate will be involved in the Horizon Europe Project with the title: “Demonstration and mainstrEaming of nature-based Solutions for clImate Resilient transformation in the MEDiterranean”, Project acronym: DesirMED, Call: HORIZON-MISS-2022-CLIMA-01, Topic: HORIZON-MISS-2022-CLIMA-01-06, Type of action: HORIZON Innovation Actions, Granting authority: European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency - Project 101112972), in which EPLO is a beneficiary.
The project is related to Climate change (CC) which is an increasing threat at European and global scale affecting social stability, public health, and well-being. Adapting to CC demands requires a radical shift from piecemeal to transformative strategies and approaches, supporting policy development at all levels and advancing transversal and multilevel governance solutions. Nature-based solutions (NbS) to preserve and restore ecosystems, increase climate resilience, and sustainably manage the environment, while providing wider long-term socioeconomic benefits, are at the heart of the European CC Adaptation (CCA) Mission Adaptation Plan objective to support at least 150 European regions and communities to become climate resilient by 2030 and a main EUGD pillar. In DesirMED, NbS will be prioritized, together with innovative technologies and inclusive social practices.
This short-term contract lasts from November 2024 (upon the selection of the applicant) until March 2025 (including March).
Core Functions and Responsibilities
Core Function
Support the Policy-related work of EPLO in the project.
The applicant is requested to:
- prepare and deliver the Policy Paper of DesirMed by the end of December 2024, and its “communicational version” by the end of January 2025, in collaboration with involved partners.
- prepare, deliver and report the capacity-building activity of the Valencia meeting, in February 2025, where the Policy Paper will act as an input.
- Considering that DesirMed is a highly synergistic project, the applicant is expected to participate in all the calls related to the preparation of the Policy Paper and the Capacity Building activities, as well as Work Package Leaders’ meetings upon request.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Experience
· At least 8 years of professional experience as a policy or advocacy expert, in topics related to sustainability environmental protection, or climate change adaptation/mitigation, in the private/public sector.
Education
· University degree/ Computer proficiency in standard software applications (MS Office, etc.)
Languages
· Fluency (oral and written) in English is required
