Water Rethink Project: Scientific conference on the reuse of water
On Monday 17th June 2024, the Final Conference of the Water Rethink project entitled: "The reuse of water in Greece as a solution to the phenomenon of water scarcity", which was organized by the Institute for Sustainable Water Management and Water Law of the European Public Organization, was successfully completed.
The event took place at EPLO premises in Plaka in the context of the implementation of the Water Rethink project funded by the Natural Environment and Innovative Actions programme by the Green Fund of the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The conference was greeted by the Director and Chairman of the Board of EPLO, Professor Spyridon Flogaitis. Distinguished scientists and water management experts attended the conference to analyze water reuse as an alternative source for various applications, emphasizing its critical role in addressing water scarcity. The speakers at the event included: Mr. Stathis Stathopoulos, Secretary General of Forests at the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Professor Ioannis Katsogiannis, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Water Management and Water Law of EPLO, Professor Antonio Marcomini of the Ca Foscari University of Venice, Assistant Professor Sotirios Karavoltsos of the Department of Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Mr. Prodromos Manolakis, President of the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of the Island of Chios, and Ms. Athanasia Tolkou, postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry at Democritus University of Thrace.
During the Conference, the main results of the Water Rethink Program were presented, emphasizing the need for measures to address the water scarcity phenomenon and highlighting the role of water reuse in Greece as a solution to this issue.
This event is part of a series of planned actions within the framework of the Water Rethink project that aim to highlight and analyze the impact of water scarcity and to raise public awareness on this issue.
