Simon Tay lectures at the EPLO on the cooperation among ASEAN, Asia and Europe
Τhe Institute for the Mediterranean of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) organized α lecture on: “ASEAN, Asia and Europe: the changing dynamics of cooperation”.
The lecture took place on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 19.00 at the EPLO premises at the Roman Agora (Plaka).
Mr. Simon Tay Seong Chee, the keynote speaker of the event was a Singaporean legal academic & former Nominated Member of the Singaporean Parliament who has recently been appointed as Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic. Mr. Tay is Chairman of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (an independent think tank) and Senior Consultant at WongPartnership LLP, a leading Asian law firm.
Mr. Tay graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the National University of Singapore in 1986 and obtained a Masters in Laws from Harvard University in 1994 and was named a "global leader of tomorrow" during the 2000 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in addition to being featured in the Far Eastern Economic Review as one of 'Ten People to Watch in Asia'. From 2002 to 2008, Tay chaired the National Environment Agency of Singapore, the country's main agency for environmental protection and public health. In 2006, he received the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat, PBM) from the Singapore government, a National Day Award. Appointed by the Singapore Government, Tay currently serves as an Eminent Person for the ASEAN Regional Forum, as Eminent Expert To the International Advisory Panel on Transboundary Pollution, and on the National Climate Change Network. Μr. Tay also writes in Asian newspapers and magazines. He is one of the editors of the Asian Journal of International Law.
