The third Greek-Russian Roundtable takes place on Criminal Law and the Enforcement of Sentences

The third in the series of the Greek – Russian Roundtables was held on "National Criminal Law and Supervision of the Enforcement of Sentences" with the presence of the Prosecutor of the Hellenic Supreme Court, Mr. Ioannis Tendes, on September 25, at the EPLO headquarters in Athens. 

Representatives of the Russian Federation included the Acting Head of the Department for Supervision over Legality of Execution of Criminal Punishment, Sergei Mikhailovich Tarakanov, Senior Prosecutor of the Department for Law Enforcement to Institutions and Organs of the Criminal Justice System, Andrey Nikolaevich Gvozdilin and the Acting Head of the of the Department for IT, Business and Research Operations Supervision, Andrey Alfredovich Majorov. The Greek representatives included the Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Stavros Mantakiozidis and the Deputy Prosecutors of the of the Athens Court of First Instance, Haido Zougri and Aggeliki Triantafyllou.

The discussion was moderated by Mr. Mantakiozidis. He first gave the floor to the EPLO Director, Prof. Spyridon Flogaitis, who highlighted the partnership between the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and the EPLO, confirmed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties, which took place on 21 September.

Then, the Prosecutor of the Hellenic Supreme Court, Ioannis Tentes, gave a welcome address noting that the cooperation between the Russian and the Greek Prosecutor Offices has had positive effects at the theoretical, as well as the practical level, with the most representative example of this being the bypassing of the bureaucracy.

Following the welcoming addresses, all participants took the floor one by one, contributing through their speeches to the comprehensive examination of the main topic, presenting the current state of affairs both in Greece and Russia with detailed and specialized reports.
