Michel Fromont has sadly passed away

With deep sorrow, the EPLO announces that Professor Michel Fromont, a dear colleague, renowned comparative public law scholar, and distinguished member of the European Group of Public Law (EGPL), has passed away.

Michel Fromont was a major figure in French and German public law. He held the French Public Law Chair (Lehrstuhl für französisches öffentliches Recht) in Saarbrücken from 1962 to 1966, where he also served as the first director of the Centre d’études juridiques françaises (now the Franco-German Legal Center). Among his notable contributions from this period is his translation of Ernst Forsthoff’s Treatise on German Administrative Law.

He continued his academic career at the University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, where he remained an influential figure in constitutional and administrative law. His long-standing chronicles on German constitutional law in the Revue de droit public are widely recognized for their depth and scholarly value.

His final academic project — a collected volume of these chronicles — will be published posthumously by the Revue Générale du Droit and later in print by Éditions Juridiques Franco-Allemandes.

The EPLO extends its sincerest condolences to his family, colleagues, and the broader academic community who mourn his loss.
