Declaration

On the proposal of the academics Professors Jean-Bernard Auby, Sciences-Po University France, Gordon Anthony, Queen's University Belfast, Paul Craig, Oxford University and Giacinto della Cananea, Bocconi University, the personalities here below, Members of the European Group of Public Law, have undersigned the following Declaration:

'The European Group of Public Law, in view of the attack on the territory and people of Ukraine:

- reaffirms its strong belief that, as established by the treaty founding the Council of Europe, ‘the pursuit of peace based upon justice and international cooperation is vital for the preservation of human society and civilization;

- reiterates its allegiance to the values of individual freedom, political liberty and the rule of law, which ‘form the basis of all genuine democracy;

- reiterates its opposition to unwarranted interference with, and aggression against, the territorial integrity of a sovereign state;

- calls all European governments and supranational institutions to act with a view to obtaining an immediate and effective cease-fire and to seeking a peaceful and just solution to disputes.
