Sassen Lectures in a full room in the middle of August

The Academy of European Public Law (AEPL) of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) had the honor of hosting in a full room its 2017 Guest Lecturer, Professor Saskia Sassen, a distinguished sociologist of globalization, migration and global cities in what was considered a very succesful event . 

The event took place on Thursday, August 24, 2017, 7:00 – 8:30pm, at the EPLO Conference Hall in Plaka, Athens.  The Greek Ombudsman, Alternate Director of the Academy of European Public Law, Andreas Pottakis made the welcome address.Dr. Theodoros Fouskas, Sociologist, Research Expert provided an overiew of Professor Sassen's work.

The lecture was open to the public and was conducted in cooperation with the Hellenic Association of Political Scientists .

Saskia Sassen is the Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology and Co-Chairs The Committee on Global Thought, Columbia University. Her recent books are Expulsions: Brutality and Complexity in the Global Economy (Harvard/Belknap 2014), Territory, Authority, Rights: From Medieval to Global Assemblages (Princeton University Press 2008), A Sociology of Globalization (W.W. Norton 2007), and the 4th fully updated edition of Cities in a World Economy (Sage 2011). The Global City came out in a new fully updated edition in 2001.
