2nd Webinar on Economic Recovery in the after COVID-19 period

The EPLO Institute for Sustainable Development and the diaNEOsis Research and Policy Institute organized the 2nd online roundtable discussion for the day after the COVID-19 period titled: "Economic Recovery vs SDGs - for or against each other? Will the Sustainable Development principles and objectives lead to better economic recovery, or will the need for quick action render Sustainable Development obsolete?"

The 2nd online roundtable discussion took place on Thursday, April 30th at 5pm Athens time.

Speakers:

  • Stefanos Fotiou, Director, Environment and Development Division, United Nations-ESCAP
  •  Alexandra Mitsotaki, President, Sygliseis - Convergences Greece Forum

Μoderator: Spyros Kouvelis, EPLO/ISD Director

Commentator: Thodoris Georgakopoulos, Editorial Director of diaNEOsis

Discussion points:

  • Planning economic development without making sure that fundamental principles and core social and environmental values are integrated, is certain to lead to a new outbreak of major socio-economic disaster, compared to which COVID-19 will seem as a small rehearsal. What can we do to make it right this time?
  • What are the key lessons to be learned from this unwanted, devastating global experiment?
  • What are the changes needed in terms of public and private governance to make sure that such principles and values are accounted for at every step of the way?
