Vacancy for “Communication Manager” for Desir-MED project

The EPLO implements a large number of programs funded by the European Union and other international donors, assisting governments and institutions around the world. The main areas of intervention comprise: governance, the rule of law, human rights, public administration, democratization, legislative approximation to the EU acquis, migration and sustainable development. The position is located within the Circular Economy and Climate Institute of EPLO.

The candidate will be involved in the H2020 EU Project with the title: “Demonstration and mainstreaming of nature-based Solutions for climate Resilient transformation in the Mediterranean”, Project acronym: DesirMED, Call: HORIZON-MISS-2022-CLIMA-01, Topic: HORIZON-MISS-2022-CLIMA-01-06, Type of action: HORIZON Innovation Actions, Granting authority: European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency - Project 101112972), in which the Circular Economy and Climate Change Institute of EPLO participates as a beneficiary. The project is related to Climate change (CC) which is an increasing threat at European and global scale affecting social stability, public health, and well-being. Adapting to CC demands requires a radical shift from piecemeal to transformative strategies and approaches, supporting policy development at all levels and advancing transversal and multilevel governance solutions. Nature-based solutions (NbS) to preserve and restore ecosystems, increase climate resilience, and sustainably manage the environment, while providing wider long-term socioeconomic benefits, are at the heart of the European CC Adaptation (CCA) Mission Adaptation Plan objective to support at least 150 European regions and communities to become climate resilient by 2030 and a main EUGD pillar. In DesirMED, NbS will be prioritized, together with innovative technologies and inclusive social practices.

 

Core Functions and Responsibilities

Core Function

EPLO’s holds a multi-tasking, demanding role in the project, participating in many of its activities.

The Candidate must support EPLO to:

- Strategically and effectively communicate the project outputs and target audiences to raise climate resilience awareness and its benefits and inspiring action (uptake of solutions)

- Support project partners to rollout place-based communication activities engaging citizens, promoting bottom-up actions, inspiring behavioral change

- Participate in the creation of a community of practice, networking and maximise the impact towards target audiences

- Organize networking activities, synergies and contributions to existing platforms

- Participate in the Dissemination activities and storytelling efforts. Creative storytelling customised for the target audience will be an essential part of the C&D material (e.g., comics for students), and will target different groups, thematics (e.g., coastal cities), geographical areas, etc

- Create Audiovisuals and a rich set of materials (podcasts, videos, photos, political statements, etc.)

- Assist in the creation of Social media channels to provide updates (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter). A toolkit will be developed that includes visual material, key messages in partner languages and tips for successful engagement including on diversity, equity and inclusion

- Design “Regional Toolkits” for regional clusters

- Organize 4 “Adaptation Exhibitions” (festivals) which will be organised to promote solution uptake, networking of local and regional policymakers with solutions providers, inviting policymakers, Climate Ambassadors and the young generation (award prizes to young students and children for their innovative ideas).

- Support the organization of “Regional Hackathons’.

 

Responsibilities

 

The candidate is expected to:

  • coordinate communication activities throughout the project lifetime
  • support stakeholder engagement through active outreach to relevant stakeholders, engaging them in the project’s network
  • assist in the creation of Social media channels
  • provide innovative content for the Social media channels of the project throughout the project's lifetime
  • be responsible for all EPLO’s events, Adaptation Exhibitions, Hackathons, seminars, webinars, etc. of EPLO related to the project
  • assist EPLO in quadruple helix engagement activities and in capacity building activities
  • create Audio visuals and a rich set of materials (podcasts, videos, photos, etc.)

Required Qualifications and Experience

Experience

  • At least 8 years of professional experience in communication positions in private/public sector
  • At least 8 years in positions related to event management or public relations or social media management or leisure management in private/ public sector

Education

  • University degree/ Computer proficiency in standard software applications (MS Office, etc.)

Languages

  • Fluency (oral and written) in English is required

Competencies

  • Negotiating skills: Developing, fostering and maintaining relationships.
  • Team Management and Leadership Skills: Capable of promptly and effectively monitoring, coordinating and communicating strategic objectives.
  • Professionalism: Knowledge and understanding of concepts and approaches relevant to a particular functional area. Conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments and achieving results.
  • Communication: Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills. Listens and communicates clearly and effectively, adapting delivery to the audience. Proven experience on events organization and public relations as well as Social media channels’ management. Experience in Marketing/Branding.
  • Planning and Organizing: Sets clear and achievable goals consistent with agreed priorities for self and others.
