The EPLO implements a large number of programs funded by the European Union and other international donors, assisting governments and institutions around the world. The main areas of intervention comprise: governance, the rule of law, human rights, public administration, democratization, legislative approximation to the EU acquis, migration and sustainable development. The position is located within the Circular Economy and Climate Institute of EPLO. The candidate will be involved in the Interreg Euro-MED Project “HERIT ADAPT” – HerItage and territory resilience through sustainable Tourism, climate change Adaptation and citizen engagement (Euro-MED0200388), in which the Circular Economy and Climate Change Institute of EPLO participates as a partner.

The overall objective of the project is to enhance the sustainability and resilience of tourism, particularly in the realm of Heritage Tourism. The project aims to address risks posed by human activity, climate change, and the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 on cultural and natural heritage assets. To achieve this, HERIT ADAPT focuses on increasing innovation, adaptation, and mitigation capacities, while promoting collaboration, effective decision-making, and the development of action plans and strategies. The goal is to protect and unlock the untapped potential of cultural and natural heritage, turning challenges into opportunities and inspiring the adoption of innovative solutions across different regions.

Core Functions and Responsibilities

Core Function

The candidate will represent a liaison among private and public tourism related stakeholders, supporting Tourism Sustainability in the partner territories and beyond, driven by lessons learnt from the HERIT ADAPT Sustainable Tourism Models which will facilitate protection of natural and cultural assets and reinforce destinations’ resilience.

Responsibilities

The candidate is expected to:

  • support stakeholder management through active outreach to relevant stakeholders and engaging them in the project’s network
  • assist in the facilitation of liaison activities with relevant stakeholders enabling awareness raising for sustainable tourism
  • assist in communication activities
  • be responsible for Final Local Workshops and High Level Conferences
  • assist EPLO in quadruple helix engagement activities and in capacity building activities
  • assist in drafting project and programme related documents, concepts, etc.
  • coordinate and facilitate communication with other Thematic projects of Sustainable Tourism Community
  • coordinate the communication with the Thematic Community Project and Institutional Dialogue Project of the Euro MED Programme
  • assist in identifying the business sector needs related to sustainable tourism, connection of project with tourism market

Required Qualifications and Experience

Experience

  • At least 8 years of professional experience in the tourism/ leisure sector
  • At least 8 years in managerial positions (director, project manager etc.) in private/ public sector
  • Familiarity and experience in the sustainable tourism sector
  • Experience in projects funded by the European Union related to Tourism sector will be an asset

Education

  • University degree / Computer proficiency in standard software applications (MS Office, etc.)

Languages

  • Fluency (oral and written) in English is required

  • Professionalism: Knowledge and understanding of concepts and approaches relevant to particular functional area. Conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments and achieving results.
  • Communication: Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills. Listens and communicates clearly and effectively, adapting delivery to audience.
  • Planning and Organizing: Sets clear and achievable goals consistent with agreed priorities for self and others.
