Up to 10 Uzbek government officials participated in 5 courses under a UNDP project, namely the following courses
amounting to 74 hours: Basic Obligations and Legal Philosophy of Trade in Goods (face-to-face & online); Sanitary
and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) (face-to-face & online); Trade Remedies
(online); Trade in Services (face-to-face & online); and Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights
(TRIPS) (face-to-face & online). It is worth highlighting that, due to the successful completion of such courses in
hybrid format, for the next academic year 2023-2024 UNDP Uzbekistan is willing to sponsor more participants
for which the new program structure has been circulated.

In this academic year 2022-2023, due to its particularity in conducting selected courses, twelve lecturers from
prestigious institutions around the globe lectured the students on fundamentals and latest developments in the
field of IEL, in particular on trade law and policy. Six full-time students from Ukraine, Kenya and St. Kitts & Nevis
engaged in stimulating high-level discussions in class together with participants from Greece, Italy and Uzbekistan.
Up until now, the conditions imposed by COVID-19 since 2020, and the war in Ukraine since 2022, have allowed
for mostly online teaching with limited teaching in situ. For the 2023-2024 cohort, the Academy is willing to run
the program in situ in Athens and online, starting in mid-October 2023, subject to minimum quorum requirements
           for on-site teaching.

Apart from the different courses through which participants are exposed to theory and practice, students have
the chance of developing a research paper, participating in a moot court and develop a project under TradeLab,
an association with law clinics from prestigious universities from five continents (Georgetown, The Graduate

During this activity, students develop a consultancy legal project for a beneficiary (potentially a government, a
producer, an international organization, a regional organization or even an NGO). The program also comprised a
career service providing professional guidance to full-time students.

This program is open to all prospective students who would like to widen horizons in the intricacies of today’s
international economic governance. The LLM in IEL program therefore welcomes graduates and professionals with
background in law, economics, political science, international relations, business, international and European
studies and/or related fields, who are interested in legal practice both in national, regional and international
bodies, economic diplomacy and public sector consulting.
