           Scientific Discussion on ChatGTP
           5 April 2023

The EPLO Institute for Privacy Law, Data
           Protection and Technology organized an
event on: “ChatGPT: just another tool or ‘the
genie out of the bottle’?” in the event hall of
the European Public Law Organization. The
purpose of the event was to discuss ChatGPT
           as the “fastest growing consumer
application in history” but also to highlight
the legal and institutional issues posed by the
wide and rapid spread of the use of
           productive Artificial Intelligence models.

A particularly lively discussion followed as
many participants as well as the speakers in
           their responses raised many interesting
issues and questions on the necessity and
difficulties regarding the adoption of rules, value and ethical issues and systems, disinformation as well as the
possible effects on the formation of opinions and attitudes and finally on democracy.

Institute offers training programs, and strategic and policy guidance

           blue economy.

It was originally launched in 2018 as the SDG Center on Governance and Public Law as a collaboration between
the University of Cambridge and EPLO. In the meanwhile, the Institute has run several projects on sustainable
development, organized high-level conferences and side events in UN Conferences (including the recent UN Ocean
Conference) and is currently a partner in two European-funded programs. Over the years, the Institute has
established itself as an authority in the fields it operates in.
