Training Program for RANEPA Students in Public International Law

Students from the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) took an Introductory Course on Public International Law, at the EPLO premises in Sounion. Selected RANEPA students attended classes, participated in workshops and study visits in various sites of Greece during their stay.

Their instructors, University professors and experts, addressed various issues on Public International Law such as: International and National Law, Sources of Public International Law, International Organization law, International Law of Human Rights, International Environmental Law, International Dispute Settlement, The EU and Public International Law, Introduction to the International Law of Treaties, Negotiation in International Diplomacy etc.

During the seminar, a study visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was conducted where the Head of the Legal Department Ms M. Telalian provided a historic background on the Cypriot issue from the establishment of the Cypriot state until today. Moreover Mrs. Telalian referred to today's global challenges, and in particular to the issue of foreign fighters with special reference to the addressing of the issue by the UN Security Council and the interpretation of the decisions taken. Ambassador Mr P. Karkampasis guided the students around the Diplomatic Academy.

During the same afternoon, the students attended the lecture on "The Cyprus problem: New effort and prospects", given by the Ambassador Mr Andreas Mavroyiannis, negotiator of the Greek Cypriot community.

On the sidelines of the training seminar, RANEPA students visited the Academy of Athens where they were honorably received by the President, Professor Epaminondas Spiliotopoulos. During their stay they also experienced a tour to archaeological sites and museums in Sounion, Lavrion, Epidaurus.  Furthermore they had the chance to practice English and get a taste of the culture of Greece.

RANEPA is the first educational institution in Russia to have joined the Board of the European Public Law Organization.
