Training a new generation who belongs to Europe directlyABOUT USNEWSSpyridon Flogaitis stressed during his speech: “Nothing would have happened without the intellectual input and the personal prestige that the best Italian experts in public law have invested in this idea, which is today presented before You in it's most advanced concept, a new idea, the European Lawand Governance School, whose objectiveis the training of a new generation of young people who belong to Europe directly, without necessarily passing through Member States’ systems of law and governance”.“The emblem of the School re ects the ideas promoted”, Prof. Flogaitis said. “It is inspired by a fabulous mosaic of St. Sophia of God, the basilica which was built by the Roman Emperor who also founded the city of New Rome that Christians then called the city of Constantine, Constantinople, and it is a copy taken fromthe church rebuilt by Justinian, the emperor who promoted the jurisprudence like no other, giving the world universal legal rules and working methods. While the mosaic artistically symbolizes the Roman sources of our times, there is alsoProf. Spyridon Flogaitis, Director of the EPLOThe Director of the EPLO Prof.an inscription in Greek saying: “and we will become better than you”, the phrase that the youth of Sparta had to say to the elders during the great festivities of the city, which was the rst of the ancient world to be based on the idea of the legislator Lycurgus that everything, in the development of a society, is the result of the education received. Also the emblem is a mosaic that combines in itself the Greek world and the Roman world, when there was really a united Europe where everyone was a Roman citizen and belonged to the same culture and the same conception of man and of the world, what we call today European cultural heritage”.“With Your support Mr. President”, Prof. Flogaitis concluded, “and the strength of a country like Italy within the EPLO, we cantruly hope that the new European Law and Governance School will contribute to the development of Europe with a common legal knowledge that respects diversity while at the same time promoting unity, which gives the future generations new ways to meet and to forge a new truly pan-European area, beyond nationalisms, from South to North, from East to West”.42 ACTIVITY REPORT 2016
