The activities of the Institute have already begun. It organized in 2016, until now, two main events and one seminar:1. A round table discussion was held on 26/1/2016,on “Perspectives of Euro- Mediterranean Relations”, on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Euro- Mediterranean Cooperation, with the participationof Greek and foreign Ambassadors, accredited in Athens, University Professors, Representatives of the EU and Journalists.The first panel in the roundtable. Welcoming remarks were addressedby Professor Spyridon Flogaitis, Director of the EPLO, Ambassador Sotirios Varouxakis, Director ofthe Institute and Professor Pantelis Sklias, Chairman of the Department of Political Sciences and International Relations, University of Peloponnese.2. A Colloquium washeld on 26/5/2016, on“Law and Religion inthe Mediterranean”, in cooperation with the Mediterranean Laboratoryof Public Law with the participation of Greek and foreign University Professors, diplomats, Judges and members of Highest Judicial Authorities, Greek and foreign political personalities.Two former Greek Ministersof Foreign Affairs, Evangelos Venizelos, former Deputy Prime Minister and Dora Bakoyannis, MP of “Nea Dimokratia”, were among the speakers in the Colloquium.The colloquium opened with speeches of Prof. Spyridon Flogaitis, Director of the EPLO, Mr. Nikolaos Sakellariou, President of the Council of State and Prof. Mathieu Touzeil-Divina, from the University of Toulouse.3. A Seminar on “Islamic Law” of post-graduatelevel for Judicial Of cers, Diplomats, Military Of cials & the greater Defense sector started in February 2016.The goal is to deepen the participants’ knowledgeand achieve a further understanding in the manner in which Justice is awarded by the Mufti of Thrace providing the opportunity to comment and evaluate their decisions on the basis of sharia law.These seminars will contribute to a better understanding and deeper explanation of relevant issues, after familiarizing the participants with a different way of thinking. In October 2016 is scheduled to begin the Program of Post-graduate Studies on “Geopolitical Analysis of the Political and Legal Framework of the States in Eastern Mediterranean”, given by University Professors, Diplomats, Army Of cersand specialized scholars. In parallel the Institute decided to begin its editorial activity with the “Institute for the Mediterranean Series”, publishing the minutes of the Conventions organized by the Institute and some works on relevant topics.ACTIVITY REPORT 2016 99Events / Seminars
