TURKEYBorder Enforcement of Intellectual Property RightsinfoThe project was funded by the European Commission and implemented by the EPLO. Duration:6 months (from 08/12/2015 to 08/06/2016).From December 2015 to June 2016 the EPLO was a leader in the Twinning project “Border Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights” aimed to establish a modernized and effective system of border protection regarding IPR in a way to ensure operational control throughout the Turkish Customs territory.The project’s purpose was to increase the legal and administrative capacity ofTurkish CustomsAdministration in linewith the EU norms and standards for proper and effective implementation of the EU Regulation 608/2013.The mandatoryresults of the projectwere to decrease the differences between EU and Turkish Customs legislation and implementation in regards to border enforcementof IPR, as well as to increase awareness among customs of cers dealing with IPR issues.The project was based on ve components:1. Review the existing customs legislation on IPR of Turkey and the EU. 2. Conduct a gap and needs analysis in the legal framework.3. Draft new national provisions concerning the border enforcementof IPR.4. Study visits to EU Member States of 12 Turkish CustomsAdministration Of cers in order to observe EU best practices (including software program related to IPR). One study visit was implemented in Greece (May 9-13, 2016) and one study visit in Finland (May 10-12, 2016)5. Internship program of Turkish Customs Administration staff in Athens customs of ces to experience implementation of IPR border protection legislation.ACTIVITY REPORT 2016 115
