EDUCATIONACADEMY OF TRANSPARENCY AND HUMAN RIGHTSGood governanceis an indicator of progress82ACTIVITY REPORT 2016The Academy of Transparency & Human Rights (ATHR) was founded on the belief that good governance is an indicator of progress in modern society, and as such it must be based upon internationally recognized norms of transparency in public activity and the protection of human rights.The Academy observes the highest level of academic freedom and standards and offers tailor-made student and professional training on the themes of human rights, transparency and good governance. It is scienti cally autonomous and is governed by its Director and its Academic Board. In addition, an Honorary Board of highly respected personalities with great experiencein their eld of action and unquestionable recognition acts as a permanent advisory committee on issues where consultation is needed, as decided by the Academic Board.The Academy’s programs are holistic and multidisciplinary. They integrate dynamic lectures delivered by academics and eld experts from throughout Europe. They discuss and analyze issues of transparency in the public sphere and protection of human rights on the national, European and international level.All programs are presented within the existing and updated framework of available international anticorruption tools necessary to practitioners of new public management in all branches of government.They are quite exible as they can be adjusted to the needsof each target group and they can be offered in several key destinations around the globe in a variety of duration time frames.Development of new curriculaThe Academy has designed and presents ve new curricula for different targeted groups: Case-law of the European Court of Human Rights (Judges, Lawyers, Diplomats) Local Government & management of EU Funds(Elected members of Local Government Entities) The protection of EU Financial interests (Public Service Of cials) EU Mechanism of Compliance (Banking Sector) Anticorruption Tools (Police, Banking Sector, Judges, Lawyers, Public Service Of cials).Dr. Ioannis Karkalis, Director of the ATHR
