The building which was constructed in 1820, before the formation of the Greek State, was renovated andis today considered as one of the most excellent architectural landmarks of the historic center of Athens.The building was of cially inaugurated in September 2015 by H.E. The President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Procopios Pavlopoulos in the presence of the Greek political leadership and of European of cials and academics from many countries around the world.At the same time, within the last twenty months, the EPLO has established four new self-governing institutions that function as expert arms for the promotion of the values it represents at the international level.To the already existing “European Institute of Management and Governance” and “Training Institutefor Law and Governance”, have been added and already recorded several successful actions: the “Institute for Justice and Growth”, the “Institute for the Mediterranean”, the “Institute for Humanities and Culture Nicos Svoronos” and the more recent “Institute for Local Governance and Policy Innovation”.It is noteworthy to also emphasize the following actions that were performed during the time period covered by the present publication: THE INTRODUCTION of the “Luis Ortega Thesis Prize” award in memory of Professor Luis Ortega, former Director of the “Academy of European Public Law”, long-standing member of the “European Group of Public Law”, member of the EPLO Board of Directors and member of the Board of Editors of the “European Review of Public Law”. THE LAUNCH of a new journal, the “European Politeia”, focusing on issues related to European law, social affairs and society. THE ESTABLISHMENT of a new, regional of ce of the EPLO in Geneva based on the fact that the Organization has been granted the Observer Status in July 2015 at the “International Labour Organization” (ILO) and in October 2015 at the “World Intellectual Property Organization” (WIPO), both agencies of the “United Nations”.Even though the EPLO is a relatively young international Organization, is developing at an impressive pace.15 countries are already membersof the EPLO. Around 70 international organizations, public authorities and universities from throughout the world participate in its Board of Directors while it is present in all continents. Nevertheless, the fresh passion of the EPLO makes us all feel that it all starts now.ACTIVITY REPORT 2016 7
