Distance Learning Program for Greek Civil Servants

Project Title:

Distance Learning Program for Public Servants on “Financing Tools and Mechanisms of the European Union and other international bodies”.

Training people at their homes

In November 2012, the EPLO launched a distance learning training program for Greek civil servants, with the first course on the subject “Financing Tools and Mechanisms of the European Union and other international bodies”.

From 2012, when the course was launched, until the summer of 2014, almost 1100 Greek civil servants have successfully completed the course. The aim of the program, which is still running, is to develop skills that will enable trainees to understand the funding opportunities available within the EU and the international environment, and how to use them.

Amidst the current financial crisis, the use of any funding opportunities offered by the European Union and other international organizations is crucial and decisive for the development of necessary public policies. In order to facilitate and intensify the use of available resources, the local officers of departments of central and regional administration need to be familiar with these financial frameworks.

The program is entirely online and asynchronous and involves 350 hours of training including online work and studies to be completed within three months. It provides all the required teacher-support material. The material has been drafted by national and European experts in the relevant topics, as well as by University Professors. Trainees can follow this program at their own convenience.

Course modules include:

  • Introduction to Distance Learning
  • Methodology and Platform Introduction to International Law
  • Introduction to European Law

  • European Public Policy
  • European Structural Funds
