Activity Report 2016DIRECTOR’S NOTEProf. Spyridon Flogaitis Director, Presidentof the Board of DirectorsBuilding a visionEurope is going through historical testing times. The economic crisis, the  ood of migrants, the growing terrorism and the regional con icts that threaten world peace endanger the path towards European integration, whileat the same time underline a serious problem: The existence of a democratic void among the institutions of the countries of the continent; a void which is largely due to the lack of leaders and of cials having a European citizen’s culture.The vision for the creation of a new generation of such, truly European citizens as regards both their trainingand culture, has been the stimulus ofa group of leading representatives ofthe European legal thought, led by the Constitutional Judge and former Prime Minister of Italy Professor Giuliano Amato, for the creation of a modern international School aiming at the formation of tomorrow’s European scientist, who belongs to Europe and advances the European values. The creation of anew generation of socially responsible of cials who will develop a common legal knowledge that will respect diversity and who will advance unity, so that futuregenerations will meet and forge tomorrow a new area truly pan-European, beyond any nationalisms.This innovative academic institutionis now a reality. It is the “European Law and Governance School” which was presented at the European Parliament in Brussels in March 2013 while the of cial presentation of its curricula was held in May 2016 at the Presidential Palace of Italy, the Quirinale, in the presence of H.E. The President of the Italian Republic Mr. Sergio Mattarella, who placed the School under His auspices.The School’s operation has already started and the European PublicLaw Organization is proud for having participated since the beginning in the effort for the realization of this great vision.The EPLO feels great pleasure but also great responsibility for having undertaken the School’s operation, in its premises in Sounion and in Athens.This great fact, which introducesthe EPLO into a new era, is even more emphasized by the expansion of our central of ces in Athens to a new building of high cultural and historic value, onthe foothills of the Acropolis, among the6 ACTIIVIITY REPORT 20116
