Training Seminars for Police Officers on the needs of victims of violence

Three Training Seminars for Greek Police Officers are organized by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) from 15 to 24 January, 2018, at the premises of the Police Academy, in cooperation with the Hellenic Police Headquarters, Training and Human Resources Development Division.

The Seminars aim at increasing the awareness of Police Officers on the needs of victims of violence, in particular women and children. More than 80 Officers, serving in Regional Directorates across Greece, will take part in the trainings. The main courses include: victimology, gender- and child-specific issues, basic communication and interaction skills, and information on victim support services.

The Training Seminars are implemented within the context of the Project “Protasis - Police Training Skills”, funded by the European Commission Directorate-General for Justice. The Project, which has a 2-year duration, is coordinated by the EPLO and carried out in four European countries: Greece, Italy, Portugal and United Kingdom. The principal objective of the Project is to contribute to the development of a victim-friendly environment during victims’ contact with the Police, by ensuring that victims are treated in a respectful and sensitive manner, through the improvement and strengthening of Police Officers’ communication skills and knowledge on how to interact with victims.
