The EPLO is deeply saddened by the unexpected passing away of Professor Luis Ignacio Ortega Alvarez

The EPLO community grieves the sudden loss of Professor Luis Ignacio Ortega Álvarez, (1953-2015).Professor Ortega Álvarez had been an active Judge at the Spanish Constitutional Court since 2011 as well as a Professor of Administrative Law in many Universities during his distinguished career, among which the Universities of Castilla-La Mancha, Cambridge, Harvard, Dresden, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples Eastern University, Catania, Trento and others.  He was chairing the team of university professors that drew up a Reform Bill for the Castilla-La Mancha Regional Statute and of the group that drew up the draft regulations implementing the Territorial and Urban Planning Arrangement Act (LOTAU) of Castilla-La Mancha.

In addition to the fact that the community has lost an important personality, an eminent judge and professor, the EPLO has lost a very significant member and a dear friend and supporter of its activities. He has been one of long-standing members of the European Group of Public Law and member of the EPLO Board of Directors. He served inter alia for many years as Director of the Academy of European Public Law and as a member of the Board of Editors of the European Review of Public Law.

He has been distinguished with the Great Cross of Military Merit -White Decoration. Above all his professional accomplishments, Professor Luis Ignacio Ortega Álvarez was a generous and caring friend and a true mentor for all of us.

We express our sincere condolences and sympathy to his family in this difficult time.
